This Christian charity has been one of St Mark’s Link Missions for many years. The charity came into being as a result of the horrific genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and we have supported them since then by means of monetary donations and knitted items to be sent to Africa and central Europe. Please take some time to look at the mission board at the back of the worship area at St Mark’s during April to learn more.
There is some sad news from CHI however, as they are now reluctantly having to terminate their ‘Stitches of Hope’ project. There are several reasons for this (see noticeboard) the most urgent being a forced move to new offices which do not have warehouse space for the hundreds of knitted items they continually receive from churches like ours. I know this will be disappointing for our ‘knitters’ but we can be pleased that we have been able to contribute over 5500 items over the years!
The charity continues its vital and important other work in Rwanda and Uganda, so please have a look at the display, take a magazine and please consider contributing to their current project. This project provides school lunches for children from the many poor families who cannot afford them- do pop something into the collection box or failing that, any loose change would be very much appreciated. You can also donate via the contactless machine- please ask about this as we have set up a specific campaign page for CHI.
Thank you, Judith Blaza
